Eggs are not just for laying anymore. From a breakfast staple to a dinner addition eggs have long been known for their nutritional value as well as the great addition they add flavor wise to any meal. Other bird eggs that have been used for consumption include quail, duck, goose, and pheasant. Gull and guinea fowl eggs are considered delicacies in other countries.
Now we know how valuable an egg is but what can we do besides flipping it over easy, or leaving it sunny side up. Eggs can be mixed in a variety of baked goods and provide the emulsifier needed, also allowing the baked goods to foam and aerate. Eggs can be used in salads, chopped up to add extra protein and nutrients. Also eggs are widely used in desserts not only for baking, but can be whipped to make meringues or a delicious mouse. The main ingredient in mouth watering flans is of course the egg.
Most people discard egg shells, but the egg shell itself is actually a great source of calcium. The eggshell can be ground up and used as a food additive, or in some cases mixed in with soil. The egg is incredible inside and out.
